For nearly three years, I’ve lived in the ancient city of Suzhou, a short bullet-train ride west of Shanghai. Suzhou is famous for its classical Chinese gardens, ancient canal streets, and fancy new developments. I'm constantly inspired by the details of living in a place so different from the Southeastern US city I grew up in, and these inspirations often make their way into my work.
I decided to create a collection that captured the vibrant energy I notice around me during the summer season in Suzhou. These bold and graphic prints are inspired by the blooms of magnolia trees in the hot summer days. With a hint of tropical, and accents of leafy elements and abstract spotted motifs, my aim was that these patterns would capture the energy of trees blooming in the heat of Suzhou summers.
